English to Sanskrit Translation

English and Sanskrit are both Indo-European languages and have many similarities. However, the differences between the two languages are more expansive and can pose challenges when we translate from English to Sanskrit translation. One primary issue is the use of different writing systems. While English uses the Roman alphabet, Sanskrit is written in the Devanagari script. It is also challenging for any Sanskrit translator to choose the right synonyms. The Sanskrit language has multiple synonyms for words that exist only in one form in English. Yet words are generally not interchangeable in Sanskrit. In other words, there is only one way to say one sentence and there is no room for interpretation. It is also challenging to translate Sanskrit into English. Sanskrit nouns are also complex and have three genders and eight cases, compared to non-gendered nouns in English that have only five cases. The Sanskrit verb morphology is equally as complicated, and the syntax of Sanskrit is unnatural for English speakers. With only 20,000 Sanskrit speakers in the world, the availability of professional English to Sanskrit translation services are very limited.

Sanskrit Translation Tips & Insights

Here we share a couple of insights from our expert Sanskrit translator. Use these tips when you translate from English to Sanskrit to ensure you create content that truly resonates with your audience.

Understand Sanskrit Synonyms
Sanskrit is the richest language in the world and the words are mostly not interchangeable. It has a huge number of synonyms because it emphasises on nuance. For an accurate English to Sanskrit translation, your Sanskrit translator should understand the true meaning of words to choose the right one for your content.

Consider Text Formatting
Formatting and layout should be taken into consideration as we translate Sanskrit into English or vice versa. Sanskrit is written in the Devanagari (देवनागरी) script and translated documents can look entirely different. Depending on the language pair, more or less space will be needed on the page with moving graphics around for your material to have a professional finish.
