Background

As a loyal client, HSP requested Renaissance Translations to handle the translation of PowerPoint presentations and PDF documents used in healthcare training workshops across Asia. The project covered 60,784 words, which needed to be translated into Burmese, Khmer, Lao, Thai, and Vietnamese. With training sessions scheduled shortly after the new year, the translations had to be completed accurately and on time despite the festive season.

Challenges

Technical Medical Terminology

The training content included complex medical and scientific terms. Translators required subject-matter expertise to ensure accurate and reliable rendering of these terms in all five target languages.

Terminology Consistency Across Languages

Consistency was essential across multiple languages to prevent misinterpretation. Inconsistent medical terminology could lead to confusion during training sessions or impact the effectiveness of the workshops.

The project was assigned in December, during holiday periods when many linguists and designers had limited availability. Ensuring sufficient resources to meet the tight deadline posed a scheduling challenge.

Formatting of Presentations and PDFs

The materials contained charts, visuals, and structured layouts in both PowerPoint and PDF formats. Preserving the design integrity while integrating translations required careful collaboration between linguists and designers.

Dual Translation Teams

To guarantee timely delivery, we recruited two dedicated teams of linguists working in parallel across the five languages. This ensured continuous progress despite the festive season.

Subject-Matter Experts

Specialised healthcare translators with backgrounds in medicine and biosciences were assigned. Their expertise allowed accurate translation of complex terminology and medical concepts.

Comprehensive Glossary Development

A multilingual glossary of over 800 validated healthcare terms was developed. This reference tool ensured consistency across all translations and will support HSP in future projects.

Certified Designers for DTP

Our design team, experienced in multilingual desktop publishing, integrated translations directly into PowerPoint and PDF files. They maintained layouts, graphics, and formatting, ensuring the translated materials matched the professional standard of the English originals.
